It would be very nice if you could also play the game without connection. Of course you cant attack other players in offline mode but everything else. And that it doesnt get boring (because you cant attack) you could introduce a gaming house. If you have built it, youre able to play minigames.
An offline mode is an interesting idea, but what we've made is a living, breathing game and that requires a live connection at all time to support the community and all the other players. Being able to do visits, revenges and even upgrades require contact with the server. Although technically it could be done, we have to look into the restrictions to the game play it brings with it.
Yes but if you're editing your island offline, and someone attacks you, what version of the island are they attacking? A previous version? Then they'd be looting the resources at that time, but what if you don't have those resources anymore because you have spent them on upgrading? Where are the missing resources going to come from? This is why it's essential the game is always live
Greetings! This is my first social game (is that what they are called?) and I must admit it is terribly stressful. Forgive me, as I do not know much about how easy or difficult it is to modify certain aspects of games, but I wanted to reiterate, modify, and add to this "offline" request. I would like it very much if you could play the game by yourself. In other words, I could access all of the content of the map in my world, but not engage with other players in their own (or my own) worlds. I suppose it comes down to not wanting to attack real players or be attacked by them. So perhaps not going off line all together as upgrading and purchasing to upgrade are essential, but rather an opt-out of battling function? No mini-games needed for me. I'm happy just plundering the built-in pirates, the British, the monsters, etc. Let me also say that I understand and respect what you have said regarding the "living, breathing game", so I beg apologies if this request if presumptuous or rude. I have a great appreciation for what you have created here, it is incredibly beautiful, loads of fun (probably why it was the first game of its kind to suck me in, thank you very much!), and I would very much like to keep playing it (by myself), world building, and developing my pirates through training. Thank you!
I understand what you're requesting, however unfortunately there is no way you can be removed from the fight match making, to be as you said, left alone. The only solution to this would be to have a permanent shield which you could do through the Market, but it would ultimately be quite expensive. On this occasion, unfortunately we way not be able to do what you would like.
Only mini game I can think of would be a target practice game. You could pick a Canon or mortar. Have two sliding toggles for x and y axis aiming. And a fire button. Yiu could have stationary paper like targets. Or game characters. It could be free or you could earn points for good shots to unlock higher lvl weapons and different characters to shoot at.
Thank you for the reply! I actually finally worked up the courage to attack someone else and it is loads of fun. Absolutely loads of fun. I always feel terribly guilty after attacking though. It is so sad to see someone's Island destroyed! But also soooooo much fun. And the fun wins so attacking we go!
I second your idea on mini-games, Bear. Mini-games to help players pass time (if they choose to) while waiting for pirate recruitment to finish. And when you play the mini-games, the game counts you as being active so nobody can raid your island while you play. A leaderboard for mini-games would be nice too. Canon-aiming sounds like a fun mini-game
Speaking of mini games, I think it would be cool if there was some sort of casino, with poker and blackjack and maybe roulette or something, where you could gamble for gold, grog or even gems. Maybe also even games of poker within your guild or something. Anyways I just think this would be cool and fit pretty well with the whole plundering and pirate theme
Would that be illegal/18+ if it was just for in-game currency? I thought you only ran into problems like that if you wanted to do it for real money.
Gambling is completely or mostly illegal in some countries (Japan, for example). If you reference gambling/casino stuff, or have gambling/poker for soft currency, it pushes the rating up to 12+ minimum, and if you have gambling/poker for real currency, it pushes it up to 17 - 21 depending on territory (if it's not banned!). We're already 12+ (in the UK store anyway, not sure if it's the same worldwide) for 'frequent/intense cartoon violence' (because of... well, the game) and 'infrequent mild tobacco/alcohol/drug use or references' (because of grog). We had to change and remove some of the Errands to keep the rating down - for example, Sir Henry Boggs used to mix cocktails, not milkshakes!
Ooh, that makes sense. I had no idea that even soft currency gambling or just referencing gambling made a rating difference. Thanks for enlightening me! And that was a pretty elegant solution, for Sir Henry Boggs to trade in the cocktails for milkshakes
