Good idea.. might balance defence a bit more... maurading pirates leaping out of your guild ship to protect your island
There's a Star Trek game (I know there's a million of those) that does this. It can definitely turn the tide of an attack and bring it up short. They also had the option of using "Heros" which were mobil and even air support during optional raids you could choose.
