    Even the most dedicated pirate likes to take some time out from all the fighting, so enjoy a change of pace with a voyage into the unknown. With a whole ocean out there to chart, full of undiscovered islands, pirate strongholds, ancient wonders and other mysteries, be sure to make some time for exploration.

    You may have the odd encounter with rival pirates, the Royal Navy, ill-tempered sea monsters or even the fabled ghost ship but the rewards will make any seafaring skirmish worth it!

    Why not tell us about you ocean adventures right here. Who did you have in your crew, what have you discovered on the map, have you uncovered every square? Tell us all about it!

  2. I love the exploration in this game. It's always fun finding new and exciting things. Only sucks it takes so long to upgrade your ship, but I guess it adds longevity to the game, lol.

    Can someone please explain everything there is to know about exploring? (ie. different shades of water, purpose of exploring, what to do after you're out of range of everything etc.)

    I am assuming the darker shades of water are deeper, and the deeper it is the longer it takes to sail in.
    As for purpose of exploring, it's just a lot of fun discovering new islands, fighting creatures, battling boats and plundering NPC bases.
    When I ran out of range I just put all of my time and resources in to upgrading my ship so I could go further, and explore more.

    The different colors correspond to the types of waters you're sailing through. Each type has a different amount of time it takes to sail through as well as a range cost that is deducted from your ships total range. Here are the 3 types at a lvl 1 ship

    Calm= Teal ,6 Seconds, 20 Range
    Choppy= Light blue, 2 Minutes, 40 Range
    Moderate Seas= Dark blue,15 Minutes, 60 Range
    **Heavy Seas

    ** I'm still lvl 1 ship at the moment but I'm guessing heavy seas will be next

    From a strategy standpoint, the rewards for exploring and fighting monsters and ships aren't worth the time and grog the battles require. I'll avoid most obstacles and just send one pirate on a long journey of exploration if I won't be playing for awhile. Then I can find out what they discovered when I log on again. Otherwise pirates are better used attacking other players.

    If the ship is on a long voyage you can still recruit a full load of pirates and attack another player or even a pirate stronghold. So, at least exploring doesn't keep you from enjoying the best part of the game, which is attacking other players. That may be a glitch, but hopefully developers won't fix until they do something to make exploration much more attractive.

    There's no glitch here. Some players prefer the single player fights to multiplayer, and remember this is the only place to get free gems aside from completing quests

    I would disagree with you on the point that exploring isn't worth the time. By exploring you open up more ports/islands which will give you a small passive income of both grog and gold. Obviously these don't produce any astounding amount, but over time even a small passive income adds up. Let's do some math.

    On my map I receive 10,000 gold and grog every time collect my map's resources. So say I only collect them once a day. If that is the case then in a year you will have made a free 3,652,500 gold and grog, and that is assuming that you never found any more islands. So I'd say that for the cost of a few pirates 3,652,500 grog and gold is a good haul.

    the map is the gift that just keeps on giving. seriously even previously explored areas keep giving, new ships, fish, sea snakes etc keep generating not to mention the discovery which has huge bonuses as you explore as well as the milestone loot. the regen fish etc get more difficult and the rewards get bigger. there is always something to be made from the map...

    I notice when I'm exploring that little treasures (some gold, grog or even a gem) will pop up along my route, and I can collect them. How long do they stay on the map for collection? Is it imperative that I follow my ship along its exploration path to collect these treasures?

    So some of the gold to collect is from your trip and will appear in your wake(the green path) and needs to be collected before your next exploration. All other treasure and grog is from discovered caches that replenish over time. These are the ones you want to collect as soon as you see them as they are on a timer. Collecting those doesn't affect your current exploration.

    No problem. Glad I could help. Pleasant Plundering!

  16. Farming certain ports and strongholds have been how I've quickly bankrolled my PH updates. My own favourite part of the game is the exploration!

    Now that I'm nearing the 75% mark of the map uncovered, I'm a bit down as new finds and rewards will be slowing down quite a bit, with 11-13 hour explorations instead of the old 2-4 hour kind.

    Maybe you could try to remember to set an 11-13 hours exploration at night before you go to bed, and then set another one to finish at your lunch break/end of your workday? That'd give you at least 2 longer explorations (and hopefully treasures!) each day.

    That is pretty much what I am planning on doing...I am very close to the 75% mark now.

  19. That's a great suggestion. In fact, I left one corner with 3-5 hour trips I do during the day, and I do the long one overnight. So agree completely... :)

    Just wondering if we could reach 75% with a level 4 ship? I'm dying for that 200 gems, haha...
