It would be nice if there was a way to attack your own base, to test out new changes and see what works.

Let us train a "test army" to send at ourselves to simulate an attack. It would be cool if we could bypass certain restrictions, like tavern limits, just to have some sandbox fun even (you know it would be cool to see how your base stacks up against ten mass-deployed santabrutenclaws or a mass of two hundred buccaneers!), although I understand if that's asking too much.

Optimally, it would be instant train, free, unlimited deployment of each unit type to really stress test a base.
If you want to create a resource sink as an additional game design element, let us buy units at a reduced cost/instant train during the self attack mode, or let us train a separate test army that we can instantly revive afterwards at a reduced cost. Obviously these units couldn't be used anywhere else, they would be unavailable outside of the test mode.

Since there are limited strongholds, if you're not looking to break a shield, it would also give us something to play around with while we're waiting on our shields to break.

Finally, let us share replays of it with our guild (or even save them to post elsewhere like the forums and youtube).

Heh! I logged in here to add the same thing! It definitely would be helpful to test our fences, defences, etc. even if we had to use gold/grog to do it!

This has been suggested.. several times. Take some time and read the master lists on each of the idea subforums. You will find that a lot of things have already been suggested.
