So Ive noticed in videos of the game I've seen online that there are supposed to be shadows behind my buildings. However, they have never been there, ever since I started playing. My guild said there should be an option to turn the shadows on in the settings, but there isn't anything there for me. Any idea how I can get shadows?
You have to be playing on a device capable of handling Metal. Any device released after the iPhone 5S (and including) will support it.
Just in case anyone gets confused by this, Metal is an iOS8 thing. My two-week-old Air has no shadows, but that's hopefully because it still has iOS7. (and will for as long as I can get away with it) Fortunately, I find the shadows extremely distracting in videos.
