I've looked for the answer to this question in other posts but I couldn't find it. So here I go; as I've gone about uncovering areas on the map I've wondered why you only uncover at your final destination and not along the journey as well. Is this something that would be considered for the future or is it a feature that would not be implemented at all?
It works like that because that's what we wanted to do, and add some longevity to the map. If you revealed squares by sailing next to them it wouldn't take long at all to uncover everything
And, note, that some squares that seem impossible to clear - ie: middle of an island - will eventually clear as you make your way around the island.
