A regional chat based on the player location

I read the Master thread and acknowledge the global chat had been turned down.
I agree it is hard to moderate the whole world in one chat room.
The global chat is filled with chaos all the time when I play the Ingress.

but I like their design of regional chat that works in a range of city where the player located.
This make people, especially noobs to easily get help from other experienced players nearby.
It also make guild recruitment much easier and guild members can have stronger connection.
The range can be about 5~20KM.

 

So basically , u want a way to meet your real life neighbors

 

I like the concept, but the problems preventing global chat from being added would be made much worse by this. Instead of one global chat to moderate, there would be hundreds...or thousands. Even worse, the breakdown by region would take away the (relative) anonymity and safety provided by global chat. In global chat, the predators/scammers have to troll randomly. Any potential target could be on another continent. But in regional chat, they now know exactly who's nearby. That doesn't sound like a good thing.
