I like the feature. Just hope it's limited to a certain number of uses. Either way, I'm suddenly thinking that this will be the end of my awesome member spreadsheet

I am looking forward to this addition, but you are correct it will present challenges. Especially with players who may have a bad history with certain guilds. In other the games we have personal messaging, which showed prior name at time the message was sent. So we are able to see if the person joining our group is someone we kicked prior due to issues, or we could message friends in other groups and ask them to check their PM history with a particular player to see if they have had any issues with them in the past. I can see certain players changing their name and returning to a guild that had kicked them prior. But again, I greatly welcome this added feature. You are right, it will be impossible to keep track of who is without some way to see their prior name. Luckily, in one our our guilds, 45 of us have a long history together and know each other very well so this won't be much of a burden. In our other guild, I only know about 5-10 players well, so it will be a challenge in that guild. I am sure there will be some other added features that might make guild management easier.

 

Lame. Don't like it. Takes away from the community feel of the game. So what if you dont like your name that's also funny, teasing people about a misspelled name or a name they hate. Not a fan of this move at all.

 

I'm glad we can get folks to change names so we don't have 2 blackbeards and 2 Jack Sparrows in every guild. And better names than ZyFt45631jky67... that guy I just call Fred in chats.
I bet that is fun in your spreadsheet Kel. Which Blackbeard is the one that we kick or promote?

 

I sure hope they didn't prioritize this over other much more needed fixes like improving guild and chat.

 

@Tim Thomas It's actually not too bad. We've had a few Sparrow-esque names, and a few [Whatever]Beards, but for the most part, they don't chat (so they don't get promoted, either). The spreadsheet tracks a lot of things from each town, (Rank, Perks, PH Level, Country, etc.) so it's pretty easy to avoid confusion. Until half the guild can change its name.

I hope it's limited in the # of times it can be used
I hope the guild log or roster shows any name changes

My guild is already threatening to change all their names to Kel1 Kel2 Kel3, etc... If they do, I may have to go free agent

 

Haha yay, i was once in an alliance where we all changed our names to match. Was a lot of fun. Another game i even payed to change my name cuz i forgot the letter k and was money instead of monkey.

 

Lol. Thats precisely why I dont like this feature. That stuff is fun and hilarious and makes the community in many ways. Played coc with a guy who spelled chief wrong (cheif), and if you remember at the beginning of the game it asks you "hey chief what do you want your name to be" or something to that affect. So fun giving him sh*t sbout them telling you how to spell it and you still screwed it up. He petitioned so hard for supercell to change it and they wouldn't making it so much more funny. I don't know, think this is a mistake.

 

Hope they charge gems to change it, to reduce abuse. Or limit to one per day/week/month/year.

 

I hope they implemented this in a way that won't allow "impersonators" in a guild to kick and cause havoc. Imagine when guild tracking shows who kicks who and a bad pirate changes name to match a guildmate to put blame on them; or to kick someone under a new identity then change back! That would seriously blow!

 

Yeah I really don't see much upside, it really only seems to have downside. Unless they charge gems for it then there's upside for Midoki.

 

Plenty of other games do it, and there is almost no abuse to speak of. But the other games have safeguards in place to prevent abuse. They don't allow people to run amok with the name changes. Again, I am all for it. Many people on this game dislike their names, no reason to make them suffer with keeping them.

 

It was mentioned once that name changes would be limited to 1 or just a couple. Definitely not unlimited.

 

I want to change my name. ONLY because it's not original and wish I had put at least SOME thought into it when I started playing. I am currently taking new name suggestions so far Cutthroat Christy FTW was suggested

 

The Dreaded Pirate Christy.... From the greatest pirate movie ever. According to my wife, but she doesn't go to movies very often. Not since 1981... I think lol

 

I'm glad this is finally being implemented! I do believe, however, there should be a fee to pay because people may abuse this in the long run. Just a thought

Understanding my opinion is completely redundant now given its going ahead, but not a fan of this either. I have definitely seen it abused in other games with people changing their names more frequently than their underwear, even with a gem cost to do it. Hopefully, like others mentioned, it's implemented as a one time deal.

 

Oh come on !!! Now you ruined the surprise that's exactly the name I was going to use @.Lord M€G/\T|2ON.
